Diagnosis of Parasites in Human Stool and Blood for an Evolving World

Sunday, August 16, 2026 (8:30-15:30)

Workshop Description:

In collaboration with the ESCMID Parasite Morphology Hub, hosted by ESGCP and ESGITM, this intensive on-site workshop aims to enhance the diagnostic skills of health professionals, providing a comprehensive update on the diagnostics of human fecal and blood parasitic infections. Combining morphological structural diagnostic algorithms with complementary “serological, molecular…” assays for the identification of parasites in human stool and blood in clinical settings. Through incorporating intensive practical skills delivered by expert interactive talks using live/digitized microscopic slides, and discussions.

Workshop Goals:

• Enhance the diagnostic skills to morphologically identify fecal and blood human parasitic infection.
• Differentiate diagnostic mimickers from real parasitic stages.
• Integrate different diagnostic approaches.
• Provide comprehensive updated knowledge on parasitic infection diagnostics, relevant to clinical settings.

Who is the Workshop for:

The training workshop is designed for laboratorians and health professionals (parasitologists, microbiologists, ID physicians, clinical pathologists…..) involved in diagnosing and managing parasitic diseases.
